Stand Your Ground
The shooting death of 17 year-old Trayvon Martin is becoming a defining moment in race relations. The unarmed teenager’s fatal encounter with neighborhood watch volunteer, George Zimmerman, sparked a new conversation about a centuries-old subject: racism. How skin color impacts perception will likely be debated for generations to come. In Saint Louis, a playwright is addressing that central question with the play, “Stand Your Ground.” Joel King brings together a diverse cast to tell the story of an interracial couple who moves from the city to suburbia with their two children, one of whom is shot and killed. Village photographer, Brian Young, gives you a sneak peek during a rehearsal.
