Searching For A Role Model, Consider David Drummond
CNN Money ranks David C. Drummond as one of the highest paid black men in America, earning a compensation package worth $31 million in 2012.
Drummond is a senior vice president and chief legal officer at Google. He heads the company’s global teams for legal, government relations, corporate and new business. He joined Google in 2002 as vice president of corporate development.
An Educated Executive…
David earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Santa Clara University and his Juris Doctorate from Stanford Law School.
David was first introduced to Google in 1998 as a partner in the corporate transactions group at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati, one of the nation’s leading law firms representing technology businesses. He served as Google’s first outside counsel and worked with Larry Page and Sergey Brin to incorporate the company and secure its initial rounds of financing. During his tenure at Wilson Sonsini, David worked with a wide variety of technology companies to help them manage complex transactions such as mergers, acquisitions and initial public offerings.
Honest and True….
Drummond’s motivation to succeed is evident in his performance and speech. In a June 2013 web chat with theguardian.com, Drummond answered a user’s question about whether the company is misleading consumers surrounding internet privacy concerns.
“We’re not in the business of lying and we’re absolutely telling the truth about all of this. Our business depends on the trust of our users. And, I’m an executive officer of a large publicly traded company, so lying to the public wouldn’t be the greatest career move,” said Drummond.
Top Dollar…
The eveningsun.com reported Drummond received a performance bonus of more than $3 million in 2013.
Drummond is easily identified as a key talent for future black professionals to model.
