Former President Donald Trump Indicted By A New York Grand Jury

After years of investigations, former President Donald Trump was indicted today by a Manhattan grand jury on charges involving hush-money paid to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. The money was allegedly in exchange for Daniels’ silence about a sexual encounter with Trump years earlier.
The indictment makes Trump the first former commander-in-chief indicted in American history.
“No one is above the law,” said former Trump attorney Michael Cohen who turned against Trump and provided testimony about the alleged payment to Daniels.
The Manhattan District Attorney and his investigative team focused on Trump’s finances, examining whether Trump falsified business records connected to the payment in a way that could constitute a campaign-finance violation.
Trump has announced his presidential campaign for 2024 and leads in most polls of Republican voters. He is also under investigation in Georgia and Washington for efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and for his handling of classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago home and private club in Florida.
Trump has repeatedly denied the allegations. He warned his supporters several days ago that he thought an indictment was imminent.
The New York City Police Department has increased security in the downtown area.
