Remember the first time you saw a photograph of Rosa Parks? She sat demurely on a bus, her hands and pocketbook resting in her lap. There was little in the picture to suggest the bespectacled woman with the serene smile had sparked a movement. But, she did.
TheVillage traveled to New York City to Guernsey’s auction house to view the Rosa Parks Archive. A close inspection of Mrs. Parks’ writings, from jail and throughout her lifetime, reveal a fiercely courageous, determined, and committed advocate of civil rights. Guernsey’s president, Arlan Ettinger, gives TheVillage a preview of the 8,000 documents and items belonging to one of history’s most inspiring Americans.
We also celebrate publishing legend, John Johnson. TheVillage takes you to Arkansas City, Arkansas where the founder of cultural touchstones like Ebony and Jet magazines was born. Mr. Johnson’s story is a reminder of the power inherent in each of us.
If you are looking to claim or reclaim your personal power, TheVillage is offering an expert to help. This month empowerment speaker and Christian psychologist, Dr. Brenda Caldwell, joins us to offer advice on living the life you want in concert with God’s plan. Send your questions to drb@thevillagecelebration.com.
There is , indeed, a plan for each of us. It may or may not have a headline attached or change a nation, but it can still bring light into the world. And that is also cause for celebration.
