Words of kindness and condolence provided a profile of the Tulsa doctor gunned down in America’s latest mass shooting. Dr. Preston Phillips, his colleague Dr. Stephanie Husen, receptionist Amanda Glenn and William Love, a patient, were shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in the Warren Clinic’s Orthopedic and Sports Medicine office located on the campus of St. Francis Hospital.

In a Facebook post, Melinda Aquino wrote, “He [Dr. Phillips] has been my doctor since 2016. I am 6 week post op today and have done amazingly well. He was an ivy league educated black doctor, way over 6 feet tall with huge hands and a calmness that was reassuring … I was supposed to see him tomorrow for a post op visit.”

The praise and prayers poured in for Phillips who graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1990.

Sandy Thompson called Phillips a “sweet friend,” writing in a separate social media post, “Dr. Phillips was a wonderful, gentle, kind person with an infectious smile and kind word for everyone.”

According to police, Phillips, who was an orthopedic surgeon, operated on the gunman, Michael Louis, on May 19. Louis had complained for several days of pain, calling Phillips’ office for additional treatment. Police say Phillips saw Louis on Tuesday for an appointment. Louis called the office again on Wednesday before the shooting which was the same day police discovered Louis had purchased an AR-15-style semiautomatic.

Louis died of a self-inflicted gunshot.

Tulsa Police Captain Richard Muelenberg said, “He very purposefully went to this location, went to a very specific floor, and shot with a very specific purpose. This was not a random shooting by this individual.”

Reports indicate Amanda Glenn and William Love attempted to stop Louis with Glenn holding the door allowing another person to escape the carnage.

The Tulsa shooting occurs eight days after 19 students and two teachers were gunned down at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, by an 18-year-old using an AR-15. Ten days before the school shooting in Uvalde, an 18-year-old white supremacist shot and killed 10 African Americans at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York. Congress has begun bipartisan talks on gun control.

There have been 233 mass shootings in America this year.
