An Ohio Couple Cooks Up Good Eats and a Family Business

Anique Russell, and her husband, Ali, didn’t cook regularly, but that all changed once they had their son during their senior year at Ohio Central State University. Anique was studying education, and Ali concentrated on environmental engineering.

“Ali and I both learned to love cooking and while young parents. We experimented every evening making dinner and our meals came out pretty delicious”, says Anique. “I became a self-taught nutrition lover, passionate about viewing food as fuel.”

The goal wasn’t just to satisfy the younger Ali’s hunger for food. It was truly a thought process to give him food that would help develop his mind and body.

Their mission soon became a successful family business. The young married couple knew other parents could benefit from having nutritious snacks for their children. They decided to have family members try out their new product, and they approved.

From Home to Market

 In 2016, the Russells launched ‘Too Good Eats’ with the mantra “Parent Made, Kid Inspired.” Their fruit and veggie pops are the root of their business. Their top sellers are ‘Too Good Green’ made with kale, mango, banana, apple and lemon. And, the other big seller is ‘Red Pop’ also known as ‘Sweet Red’ which includes cherries, strawberries, carrots, apples, and dates.

The couple has been featured in articles and lauded for their focus on nutrition. Anique shared how they put it all together.

“For the popsicles, we select the best market fresh fruit and veggies,” she explained. “We don’t use any added water or sugar, just fruits and veggies juiced and blended to create a wholesome delicious treat.”

Someday Anique and Ali hope ‘Too Good Eats’ will be available around the country. For now, the products are found almost anywhere in Columbus, Ohio. And, they’re making a name for themselves by catering special events and with their website where customers can order the popsicles.

Anique and Ali have advice for those who want to be entrepreneurs because their business grew out of a love for their son.

They advise, “Take your time, remain humble, and focus on that special niche that makes your product or service unique and customers coming back!”
