Spring Training with Hollywood’s Jeanette Jenkins
Hollywood fitness trainer Jeanette Jenkins is one of the most respected trainers in the industry. Jenkins garnered much of her success with her out of the box thinking. Whether it is through a workout video, one-to one training or a public appearance, Jeanette Jenkins inspires both men and women to live healthier lives.
TVC: You are working on a show with television and film couple Salim and Mara Brock Akil. Tell me about the show.
Jenkins: We have a production deal together and we are working with BET with a new show called “Back to Me.” We are halfway through. We have been working for about eight weeks. It is probably the longest pilot in BET history, because normally you can tape a pilot in two days. In our case it was longer, because we have to transform these people. I really have to train with these ladies every day. It has been a three month process.
TVC: Why was a show like “Back to Me” important to create specially for BET?
Jenkins: I am really excited to share this with the African American community and give them some content on health and wellness, educate and inspire. This is part of our life everyday as well as eating out and working out. We deserve to have that inspiration.
TVC: How can we all stay fit?
Jenkins: Number one is to accept the need to change. If you haven’t had an active and consistent workout schedule, you have to accept that this is something that you want to do in your life. You have to make some changes. Secondly, schedule these workouts into your weekly regimen. So, instead of waking up and saying that I am going to work out today, look at the whole month. Monday, I am going to take a spinning class. Tuesday, I am going to do yoga. Wednesday, I am going to do a three mile walk and so on. Once these things are scheduled, think about all of the other events that are major in your life that you achieved, whether it is your degree or certificate that came about because you created a plan. Healthy living requires planning.
TVC: Who are some of your celebrity clients?
Jenkins: I have recently worked with Alicia Keys and P!nk to get them ready for their album releases. P!nk shed 60 pounds over a year of us training. I still work with Kelly Roland, Tia Mowery, Nia Long and Anika Noni Rose. They all keep me busy.
