A Resolution To End “Open Season” On Black Men
The justice system of Arkansas recently failed another Black family when the Prosecutor’s requested that charges against former Little Rock Police Officer, Josh Hasting, be dismissed following two mistrials.
Hasting shot and killed a fifteen-year old child in 2012. Hasting had been suspended from the force more than six times in five years and should not have been allowed to put on a police officer’s uniform, especially after his supervisors noted that he acted recklessly, lied to other officers, slept on his job, and even abandoned his patrol area. The fact that the Little Rock Police department allowed him to continue to put on a uniform seems negligent at best.
A dismissal of this type of case only happens when the victim is Black. And because protocol has been set, it is allowable and in some settings acceptable to murder Black men. From Florida to California and points in-between, killing a Black man is becoming standard operating procedure. We are the descendants of those who died so we could be counted. So ask yourself: Do we have the historical standing to allow those who job is protection and service to disregard and abort Black life?
It is widely understood that no civilized society permits one human to intentionally harm or take the life of another human without punishment. Because police officers have been able to murder black men without punishment, one can infer one of two things: 1) Arkansas, and this country at large, with all its talk about equality, justice, and whatever other truths it finds to be self-evident, is not civilized. 2) Bobby Moore, the fifteen-year old and every other black man who has been murdered by agents of this state are not of the human race, therefore, killing them is sport and does not deserve public outcry from the community. Of the two inferences, verdicts and laws support the latter.
That is why I am offering the following resolution:
WHEREAS, our communities are subject to random acts of violence that all too often includes murder, by agents of the government
WHEREAS, it is the intent of this communiqué to require accountability from any person that provides public services to our communities
WHEREAS, we have an inseparable, God-given, and historically backed mandate to protect our kids with great nerve
WHEREAS, it is necessary to stop the widespread occurrence of this infectious disease throughout the country
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED Black citizens of these United States, who are concerned with our community shall from this day forward sound the alarm, often and loudly when we are so blatantly denied justice. This issue begs for action, and this communiqué is the first of such action.
